#1 Mother Arrested for Starving Children
27 year-old Lakisha Connors of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was arrested on Thursday, November 5th, under charges of child endangerment.
#2 Children in the Trash
Connors's neighbors called local law enforcement after witnessing the children digging through garbage in the side yard.
#3 A Home in Disarray
When authorities arrived at the scene, Connors was passed out on the couch. The officers were let into the home by three-year-old Amonte and five-year-old Dante.
#4 Food Lockdown
Despite the chaos of the home, the police found that "there was a lock on the refrigerator and all nonperishable foods were locked in a huge wooden makeshift storage container in the mother’s bedroom.”
#5 "There was only enough food for me!"
Officers reported that when confronted, “Lakisha plainly said, without any remorse, ‘There was only enough food for me! Them kids get on my nerves.'"
#6 A Step Further
As if this weren't enough grounds for apprehension, Latisha continued to justify her actions to officers on scene: "But [the children] eat, they eat my scraps. I’m a big girl I need more than them!'”
#7 Under Arrest
Connors is currently being held on a $500 bond, and all seven children have been taken into protective custody. At least she is somewhere with strict food rationing!
